Groundnut, also known as groundnut is an important oilseed crop and the best natural source of fat and protein. It is used as food for both humans and animals. It also has medicinal value and is used to treat inflammation, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's and gallstones. They are also used as paints, lubricants and insecticides. Peanut seeds contain 44-56% oil. The dry seed contains 22-30% protein.

Botanical description
Arachis hypogaea L. is an erect/spreading/spreading annual crop which grows up to 30-50 cm in height. Leaves composed and arranged opposite. Leaflets are uniform in number and elliptical in shape. The flowers are yellow, arranged in axillary bunches. Pods that develop underground contain one to three seeds. Each seed is surrounded by a thin papery seed coat.
