My friend Lauryn Bosstick, host of The Skinny Confidential, is guest posting today! She's an expert on skincare routines and a huge fan of the ice facial (the subject of her post today). Today she's sharing her tips for glowing skin!
It's such a pleasure to be guest posting on Wellness Mama today. From the blog to the wellness product line to Katie herself, I've been a huge fan for years. Katie was on HE & HER show a few years ago talking about how to optimize all areas of your life, running a business, parenting and more. She has been a tremendous advocate for health and wellness topics for a while now.
My Story
Anyway, today I'm here to talk about the benefits of ice on your face. My name is Lauryn Bosstick and I am the creator, founder, author and co-host of the podcast behind The Skinny Confidential.
A few years ago we launched a line of pink preventative beauty products that you can seamlessly fit into your daily routine. The first product we launched was The Skinny Confidential Ice Roller and to this day, it is one of our best sellers.
It all started when I had double jaw surgery and went through a terrible healing process. The recovery time was double what I thought it would be and left me bloated, looking like the sloth from The Goonies and having a bit of an identity crisis if I'm honest. When I say I've tried everything under the sun to speed healing and reduce swelling, I mean EVERYTHING.
The thing I found worked best was rolling the ice. I would buy these cheap little ice rolls from Amazon one after another. Why? Because they broke and wouldn't stay cold for very long.
Ice rolling worked for me. The face cream immediately reduced the puffiness and redness and felt so good. Through moderate massage as well, it helped drain the lymph nodes, de-bloat and helped turn my jaw.
Fast forward a few years and the team and I launched our ice roller, but as the Rolls Royce of ice rollers. Think a large silicone handle, aluminum roller that stays cool for ages, a fingerprint for ultimate control, and something that will last, won't break after a few weeks. Plus, like all TSC skincare products, it's pretty, pink, and you want it to pop on your handbag.
So with that, let's get into the benefits of skin cream and cool temperatures on your face.
Ice facial benefits for your face
Reduces inflammation and swelling
Ice is a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces swelling and helps condition the skin. So throw some ice on your face and say goodbye to the angry redness of your pimples, rashes, blemishes and/or irritations.
Minimizes the appearance of pores
We all want to look like we have baby smooth skin. Ice can help minimize the appearance of pores by constricting blood vessels and blocking the products you use. So put some ice on your face to get one step closer to a super smooth complexion.
Soothes and soothes sensitive skin
If you have sensitive skin, an ice facial is a great way to soothe and calm it while reducing redness, inflammation and swelling. It's also a great way to keep acne at bay for those with eczema or rosacea, which improves circulation and skin health.
Plus, it is said that using ice therapy twice a day for 20 minutes in 6 weeks can increase the thickness of your skin by up to 32%. Rubbing ice on your face helps improve blood circulation, which supports skin health and helps reverse the aging process.
It helps make-up last longer
Ice helps keep skin cool and acts as a moisturizer, which is a great help in preparing your skin cells for makeup application. This allows for better product application, and better application means your makeup will last longer.
Reduces the appearance of bags under the eyes
Applying ice to the under-eye area can help reduce puffiness and dark circles, giving the appearance of fewer eye bags. Get ready to reduce puffiness and look like you've had a full 8 hours of sleep, even if you've only had 5.
Gives an instant face lift
Who needs a facelift when you have ice? Ice can give an instant face lift by tightening and firming the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Much better than spending money at the dermatologist for things like retinol and peeling with possible unwanted side effects. So forget spending thousands of dollars on plastic surgery and get some ice instead.
HOW TO USE THE CONFIDENTIAL ICE ROLLER FOR AN ICE FACIAL:
- Store your roll in the fridge or freezer, depending on your preference.
- If you opt for the cooler, swirl it around your wrist about 8 times before using it on your face (we want to make sure it's not too cold).
- Roll in an upward and outward direction on your face, then down the sides of your neck to drain lymph.
- Repeat as many times as you like.
Personally, I roll on ice the second I wake up. Yes, almost. First scrape your tongue with the Wellness copper tongue scraper, THEN ice pack. I also do it before my skincare and makeup routine.
HOT TIPS FOR YOUR ICE ROLLING:
- When traveling, use a hotel ice bucket to keep your roller cool (beach club wine bucket works great LOL).
- Store your roller in our sleeping bag to keep it free from bacteria and frozen peas in your freezer.
- Ice also rolls out your sore muscles after a hard workout.
- To clean your roller, take a neutral cleaner and a soft damp cloth. Lather it up and wipe it off. Allow to air dry on your counter.
And if you're not getting a roller, just grab an ice cube and get to work on your face. You can also fill a bowl with ice water and give your face an ice cold bath with ice water. It all works.
Experience the benefits of an ice facial for yourself!
We hope this post gets you interested in cold therapy for your face if you aren't already. Be sure to listen to Katie's episode of HIM & HER and check out her guest post on The Skinny Confidential.
