Material notes
- Cream Cheese: It is the main ingredient of cheese balls. It will blend best if it is soft.
- Orange Zest: You definitely don't want to skip the orange zest in this recipe! A little goes a long way, but it brings out so much flavor that really makes this recipe.
- Dried Cranberries: If you like really chunky cranberries, you can leave them whole, but we like to chop them up a bit more to spread them more evenly throughout the cheese balls.
- White Chocolate: You can use white chocolate chips or depending on your preference you can get a bar of white chocolate and chop or grate it. You can make the white chocolate as finely chopped or chunky as you like.
Deeper Ideas
There are so many different things that can go great with these cheese balls, so feel free to experiment! Some of our favorite options are shortbread cookies, blue wafer cookies, apple slices, madelines or croissants.
Cheese ball shape
Using plastic wrap to shape the cheese balls makes it a lot easier and a lot less messy, but you don't have to if you don't want to. This is also a great option if you want to shape it into a log instead of a ball. Just make sure you refrigerate the cheese ball for at least 2 hours before serving so that it retains its shape.
