Granny Smith apples are best for bread baking because of their delicate tartness and firm texture. This means they hold their shape well in the oven. However, Royal Gala, Pink Lady and Fuji apples are also great.

Tips and modification ideas
Adding velvety icing, chewy cranberries, and crunchy coconut to this homemade apple bread recipe takes it to the next level.
- Prevent sticking. Line bottom and sides of loaf pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Make it fruitier. Instead of 1 1/2 cups apples, use 3/4 cup apples and 3/4 cup chopped peaches or apricots for some extra sweetness.
- More add-ins. Stir in 1/4-1/2 cup dried cranberries, shredded coconut, or raisins for more flavor and texture.
- Make the muffins. Line a muffin tray with liners. Pour batter into them until 3/4 second full. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Add the icing. Beat 1/2 cup powdered sugar with 4 teaspoons lemon juice until smooth. Spread the mixture on cold bread for a sweet bite. You can also use frosting or cool whip for this.
- Stay in the center. Never bake on the lowest oven rack. The bottom of the bread will burn before it has a chance to cook through the center. Always bake on the middle rack.
How to Store Apple Bread
If you make 2 loaves you can always have on hand for a last minute dessert.
- Counter: Store it in a paper bag for up to 3 days. This method is not recommended if you live in a high-humidity area.
- Fridge: Store it in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Let it come down to room temperature for 5 minutes before digging into it.
- Freezer: Wrap whole, in pieces or in pieces with plastic wrap. Transfer it to a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge or on the counter for 20 minutes.
