There are few things I love more than a basket full of colorful Easter eggs. Passover is important in our family and one of our favorite times of the year. However, I often find myself bored with excessive commercialization. I also peel when the Passover turns into an excuse to let children (and ourselves) overwhelm in treatments filled with sugars, food colors and artificial ingredients.
I am glad that I allow children to enjoy some treatments for a special occasion. However, I am choosing to keep some of our favorite traditions with healthy and natural curves.
Let me explain why!
“Naturally painted Easter eggs … very extreme?
I will admit that I do not really understand the Easter tradition of a rabbit (they do not lay eggs) giving eggs and plastic baskets filled with candy. I think giving our children to piles of food thrown at Easter (and other holidays) Put a precedent that accompanies celebrations with unhealthy foods. For me, there are better ways to develop Good food habits for a life.
This may sound extreme for some. Of course, there is nothing wrong with an occasional pleasure in a food that is less than healthy. But I think most worried parents would agree that children these days are getting these indulgence very often. From each child's birthdays in their classroom at school Until Valentine's DayHalloween, Easter, etc., has more than enough children to get the message that entertainment and celebration = delicious unhealthy foods.
(Maybe that's just a pee of mine, though?!)
But let me get off my soap … in Easter eggs!
How to color Easter eggs without synthetic colors
Eggs are one of our favorite foods, so I certainly don't have any problems with the eggs themselves. As you can guess it is plastic versions, filled with candy I get issues with.)
It turns out that the harmless color tablets used to color Easter eggs contain harmful colors that may have a bad effect for some children. Even this year alone, the FDA stopped some colors of red food, however synthetic colors are still allowed in food. True, we do not eat shells, but the egg shell is permeable. Some children are so sensitive to The color effects of artificial foodThat I thought it was worth researching more natural colors.
There are several ways to use natural ingredients for egg coloring. There are even color sets made of natural colors from food now that come in different shades!
Option 1: Natural egg paint purchased in the store
To color Easter eggs of course in the simple way, use a safe, natural food coloring. Mix according to the following reports and soak your eggs in the color bath until the desired color is. Or buy Premada natural natural tablets here and follow the package instructions.
Option 2: Natural egg color from fruits and vegetables
If you do not have the natural coloring of the surrounding food (we often not), you can also use fruits, tools and herbs to accomplish the same. We tried this a few years ago and we will do it again this year.
Below are foods that can be added to boiling water while cooking eggs to make different colors. You can also liquid or boil the ingredients, cool to room temperature, add vinegar and use it as natural Easter egg coloring.
- Blue: Add a cup of purple cabbage to the water when boiling the eggs.
- Purple – Add a cup of blueberry to the water. This can make a very deep, purple color!
- Brown – Onion skins make a pleasant, golden brown. Spinach leaves create a yellow brown.
- Coloring: Add a tablespoon of Spirulina to the boiling water. You can also leave the greens, mix the juice with vinegar and use it as a fresh coloring after the eggs are cooked.
- Red/pink: Pomegranate or beet juice is added to boiling water. You can also put a few tablespoons of vinegar on pomegranate or beet juice and use it in pre-cooked eggs as a fresh coloring.
- Purple: Add grape juice to boiling water or soak the pre-pan-lated eggs in grape/vinegar juice. This does for a prominent purple egg.
- Yellow/orange: Add a few teaspoons of turmeric or saffron to boiling water, or simmer these spices in the water, cool and mix with vinegar for fresh coloring.
Some notes: These natural changes make pastel eggs which I think are more beautiful than neon eggs created in artificial colors. Just a warning, however, you will not get any florescent shade with these methods!
Diy tutorial of natural egg color
These beautiful colored eggs with beautiful colors contain natural colors. A fun project to do with kids!
- 1 CUP red skin
- 1 CUP yellow skin
- 2 CUPS Purple or red cabbage
- 2 CUPS spinach
- 2 CUPS blueberries
- ¼ CUP saffron of India
- 2 CUPS beet (chopped or chopped)
- 2 CUPS grape juice
- 2 Tbsp VINEGAR (for the color used)
- white eggs (Brown eggs also work)
-
For each color you will need 1-2 cups of plant material for every 2 cups of water. Use 2 cups for a more vibrant color. Since turmeric is a dried powder will only need 1/4 cup of this to make yellow turmeric.
-
Add 1-2 cups with a fruit or tools selected in the pot along with 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes with the lid on. You can add raw eggs and vinegar to water and fruit/veg while boiling, but reduce boiling time to 15 minutes or they will be difficult and overloaded.
-
Allow the liquid to cool to room temperature, then strain the fruits/vegetables and compost. Squeeze the plants to draw as many colors as possible. If you are boiling the eggs with the color juice, then simply remove the eggs from the liquid after cooling and they are made.
-
Place unsaturated and solid eggs in natural color juice and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Let them dip for a few hours or at night in the refrigerator.
-
For a stronger effect on coloring, dry the eggs after a few hours with a paper towel or fabric towel/pure old shirt that you do not mind getting stains, then put back on the paint for a few more hours.
-
Remove the eggs from the liquid after they are dyed and dry. Rub the shell with a little oil to make them shiny if you want.
- You can dye brown eggs, but the colors will be a little different and a little more silent than white eggs.
- Making the paint first, then soaking the solid eggs in the water makes the colors more vibrant than the eggs boil in the water.
- Before you die, you can use a white coloring to make patterns on the egg. Models will appear after they are dyed!
Easter egg hunting strategies
I've never been a big fan of Easter egg hunting and I would give up completely, but the kids really look forward to them. Unfortunately, they usually result in a large candy bag that somehow disappears when my children are sleeping (maybe the Easter rabbit stole it!)
In the past, I have also hided boiled eggs with difficulty to find (dogs found what they lost!). Or we just have a family day abroad that includes many other activities. Last year, we made a treasure hunt with data that led to a better price (the seeds that they would plant in their small garden corners).
Healthy Easter basket ideas without candy
I have no problem for Passover to be a time of joyful celebration and small gifts. As I mentioned before (maybe many!), Are the plastic parts, filled with candy of this holiday with which I get. That's saying, I love baskets and save everything in them, so my children get a (reusable) basket every year filled with good (non-shell).
Here are some ideas we have tried over the years that have been a hit!
Increase your grass
Grow grass with wheat, alfalfa or clover seeds on a small plate that will fit the bottom of your basket. Use this instead of Easter plastic grass you find under the bed in September. Children love the innovation of grass growth inside. As a bonus, the grass is supposed to be great in cleaning the indoor air. You can even plant it out with children after Easter. If you are not ready to grow your grass, chop the paper into a piece and use it in place. Recyclable when done!
Instead of a basket, give your child a pot of flowers
In the pot, place a pair of small gloves, a package of inheritance seeds and a small shovel and let your baby grow their own garden of containers. There is even Predefined tots for this. Plants are a simple option, and children can use them IN! This is guaranteed to provide longer entertainment than plastic toys and pixie sticks.
Look at the wonderful stores
We are with a budget, and making Easter baskets for each safe child who adds! Check out the gorgeous local shops for some entertainment gifts for Easter baskets. For example, for one year, each of the children got a movie, a book and a few shoes, and I spent less than $ 10 in total.
Adopt a family housewife
If you are brave, consider a small animal. This strengthens the focus of the “new life” of Easter and will be much more exciting than candy and toys. Just be human! only Adopt a pet if you plan to keep it and take care of it, as many chickens, ducks and rabbits are abandoned after Easter.
Give healthy food instead of jumper
If your children are looking forward to edible treatments, replace some treatments with those that are healthy and fun. Consider VEALfruits, nuts, or Household energy rods. Really brave? Make some “views” made at home with my Probiotic recipe marshmallow.
