Stevia liquid extract It is a relatively easy solution to make at home. Plus is a less expensive alternative for shops purchased! We like the home -made stevia extract to sweeten smoothies and cheesecake, but it also tastes great in coffee or sweet tea!
If you grow your stevine, you can store fresh leaves to make a more powerful extract. This is my basic stevia recipe, and it is suitable for children and pregnant women since cooking alcohol.
I get stevia leaf dried out of here wholesaleor you can save your own.
What is stevia and how to use it
Pure Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana) has a sweet taste and is a sugar -free way to sweeten foods and drinks. It ranks much lower in the glycemic index compared to other sweeteners such as maple syrup or sugar. The plant itself can have a slightly bitter taste, so companies have created a very refined white powder from it.
These powders bought in stores are a concentrated and refined version of Steviol glycosides responsible for the sweetness of Stevia. They are made by processing stevia with GMO microorganisms to create a good, white Stevia powder. While Stevia has gained popularity as a sugar substitute, not all brands are the same.
Many contain additives and fillers such as maltodextrin, erytritol, dextrose and other artificial sweeteners. However, some brands of liquid stevia, like sweet leaves have quite pure ingredients.
Stevia is more than just a sweetener. Researchers are studying Stevia and are compounds for her health benefits. Stevia is shown to help reduce hypertension, promote a healthier weight, has supporting effects of insulin and anti-diabetic, and is an antioxidant. Alsosht also studied for its role as an antimicrobial and in the aid to combat the Lyme disease. A cup I can't say the same!
Home -home extract recipe
A natural sweetener made of stevia leaves, useful for sweetening tea, coffee and ripe goods such as cheese.
-
Sterilize the glass jar and lid in boiling water.
-
If you use fresh stevia leaves fill the 2/3 full jar. If you use dry leaves Stevia fill the 1/2 full jar.
-
Pour the chosen alcohol over the leaves to fill the jar and place the lid tightly.
-
Place the extract in a place where you will see and let it sit for 36 hours, shaking occasionally.
-
Use a cheese or excellent netting of the mesh lined with a coffee filter to strain the juice in a small pan.
-
Turn the heat to low and bring to a low decoction. Don't be boiled as it will ruin the taste !!!
-
Simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring constantly and making sure it does not simmer. It will thicken while alcohol evaporates. When you get your desired thickness, remove from heat.
-
Store in a small jar in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.

Stevia growing
Stevia does well in warmer climates where temperatures do not dive below 45 degrees. You can grow your stevia plant during the summer if you do not live in a tropical environment. A sunny window Works too!
Using fresh vs stevia to dry
I often have fresh stevia in my garden and that's what I use when making home -made extract. Dried stevia leaves also work well, but you will need to adjust the recipe. Since dry leaves absorb more moisture from alcohol, you only need to fill the 1/2 full jar. When using fresh stevia leaves, pack the jar about 2/3 full. Making your Stevia extract is more of an art than a science!
Places like Amazon sell stevia dust (not processed white things). However, stevia powder is much harder to strain, so I prefer to use the cut and sifted leaf to make stevia sweetener.
Recipes to try with Stevia
