Irish Sourdough Soda Bread Throw: A family favorite for St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick's Day it's a time to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than with a delicious and traditional Irish soda bread? This year, I'm sharing one of my family's favorite recipes: Irish Sourdough Soda Bread. This recipe is not only delicious, but it's also a great way to use up leftover sourdough, which is the inactive sourdough starter you throw away when you feed your starter.
I've always loved Irish Soda Bread. It's a little sweet, a little dense and has a wonderful crumb that's perfect for spreading butter or jam. It's also a very simple bread to make, which is why it's become a staple in our St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
This recipe for Sourdough Irish Soda Bread is adapted from Ina's garden, and it's one of my favorites. It's easy to follow, and the results are always delicious. Bread is made with all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, butter, eggs, buttermilk and raisins. Using the sourdough toss adds a subtle flavor to the bread that I really like.
