Conventional hair spray is one of the worst offenders when it comes to Toxins in beauty products. Typically there is aerosol, PFA, Voc and more. More companies are making safe alternatives, but I have discovered a way to make mine. This DIY hair spray is simple and really works!
This natural alternative is easy to make, less expensive and healthier for hair. And it's always more fun when I get to make my beauty products. You use only a few ingredients, such as alcohol, white sugar and essential oils to make your hair spray. WHEREAS I do not recommend White sugar food, there are uses!

DIY hair spray ingredients
We've already covered what we don't want to see in our hair spray cans, but what about DIY hair spray? Sugar is what gives this hair spray that holds the power and helps maintain a little juice. Some DIY recipes require a few teaspoons of sugar, but I find out I get the best with 2 tablespoons.
The other ingredient is alcohol. This reduces the drying time and also helps the hair spray last a little longer. I prefer to use rum with spices for his aroma, but any alcohol with 80 (or higher) alcohol will work. Just make sure it has not added sweetener or aroma. Rubbing alcohol can also work, but I have not tried it.
And the simplest ingredient is water. Be sure to use filtered or distilled water, as tap water introduces many bacteria. Some people replace some of the regular water in the rose water recipe for a beautiful aroma and added hair benefits.
The addition of essential oils
Oils have some great benefits for the scalp and eventually healthy hair. Rosemary essential oil and lavender oil is known to help in hair loss. Peppermint feels refreshing and raising in the mood. Diy hair spray recipe
This natural home -made hair spray recipe contains simple ingredients with a long stable hold. Adjust keeping and aroma with your favorite essential oils!
- 1.5 CUPS distilled water (or filtered water)
- 2 Tbsp white sugar (the dark ones don't work)
- 1 Tbsp 80 trials or higher alcohol (like vodka. I prefer rum with spices for the aroma)
- 10-15 droplet essential oils (see above for ideas)

Simmer the water and dissolve the sugar in it.

Allow the sugar water to cool to room temperature, then add alcohol and essential oils.

Store in the spray bottle and use as you will use regular hair spray.
- Adjust the sugar up or down for a bit of a stiffness/retention (more sugar = stronger retention) but do not add too much or the hair will feel contagious.
- I had a lucky combining this with the salt from the spraying of beach waves for a textual spray. I lowered the sugar in half and added half the magnesium.
- This hair spray recipe does not have a preservative, so it will last for a few weeks in the refrigerator. I found that there is a longer shelf life if it is in an airtight container. Make sure you throw it if it starts to smell or watch.
How to use the hair house recipe
Natural hair spray has much cleaner ingredients, but it can work a little different than conventional versions. While I found it keeps your hair well, it usually works better to apply easily. Spraying too immediately can make the hair feel difficult or sticky. Try applying a coat, let it dry, then reapply if necessary.
If you have curly hair or fried hair, then hair spray can help soften the frizz and give more definition curls. A light spray with DIY hair spray can also help keep your hairstyle in place after using heat tools. Experts are divided into the safety of using hair spray before heat styling tools. As they are arguing about conventional hair spraying, sugar and alcohol ARE Both flammable. So you are likely to save DIY hair spray after using curly iron.
longevity
Since this product has a water base and does not have a real preservative, it will not last forever. I find that it lasts for several weeks when kept in the refrigerator. If you do not use hair spray too often, then you can cut the recipe in half.
