Material notes
- Grape tomatoes: The perfect choice for beauty, but you can also use cherry tomatoes or diced Roma tomatoes.
- strawberry: Cut into pieces
- Blueberries: You have to have that blue, and we love the pop and flavor, but you can also play with blackberries.
- Mini Mozzarella Balls: The item you're looking for may be called mini mozzarella balls, bocconcini, or mozzarella pearls.
- Fresh Mint: Fresh is best, but if you want to eliminate that green, replace with 1 to 2 tablespoons of dried and whisk it in with your dressing.
- Honey: a little sweet
- White Balsamic Vinegar: A little sour
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Fats that conduct odors
- Salt Pepper: and natural flavor enhancers that bind it together.
Choice of tomatoes
We recommend grape tomatoes for this recipe. However, cherry and roma tomatoes also work well to keep their shape after cutting. You can also make this salad with any regular garden tomato. They tend to be juicier, which will make for a watery salad and affect the overall presentation.
Mini mozzarella balls
You can find mini mozzarella balls in the fresh cheese section of most US grocery stores. Just look for them in round plastic containers or vacuum-sealed bags. You can usually find them next to other big balls of fresh mozzarella cheese. Fresh cheese is usually found in a separate category than mozzarella cheese and shredded cheese bricks. Names you'll find for these cute cheese balls are mini mozzarella balls, bocconcini, or mozzarella pearls.
Vinegar substitute
We recommend white balsamic vinegar for its mild flavor and clear color. Regular balsamic vinegar is also delicious but will give the salad a brown color. Other clear or light-colored options include mild vinegars such as white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. If you use these less-sweet vinegars, add a little extra honey to balance the flavor.
