Personalization tips: essential oils and other ingredients
One of my favorite things about home -made soap is how appropriate it is. While this recipe includes sweet orange essential oil for a fresh, citrus aroma, you can easily change it for an essential oil or leave it completely if you prefer an indecisive stripe.
Choosing the right essential oils
Oils not only add to the aroma, but can also improve the feeling of soap. Here are some options you can love:
- Luggage – classic and soothing, great for a relaxing shower.
- pepper -Colty and refreshing, perfect for a morning awakening.
- Tea tree – a fresh and clean aroma often used in skincare.
- Eucalyptus -A fragrance like a bath that is well paired with the natural aroma of the oats.
- Lemon or lime – bright and lifting, similar to sweet orange.
I have tried so many different combinations over the years, and I find that citrus oils (though I still love them) tend to fade faster in the cold process soap, so if you want a long aroma, go for lavender, tea tree or peppermint.
Oatmeal Exchange: Other Exfoliants and Additions
While this recipe uses oatmeal for its soft exfoliating properties, you can easily change it for other natural exfoliants to adjust the structure and feeling of your soap. Here are some great alternatives:
- Brown to the ground – adds a little bit of bitterness for additional exfoliation.
- The seedlings of the poppy – a soft, natural exfoliator with a gentle cleaning effect.
- Coconut or honey milk – Helps create a creamy, moisturizing wool while adding a touch of luxury.
If you want one softer soapYou can also leave out exfoliants altogether and still get all the benefits of this nutrient mixture.
Just be careful that some ingredients, such as honey and milk, can speed up TRACKING (When the soap thickens), so work quickly if you decide to add them!
