If you're anything like me, you've already taken your vacation pie chart. You may even have started stock up on supplies and ready your recipes for a year bake-a-thon cookies. But bread, glorious bread, is often neglected at this time of year. And that's a shame.
You can roast all the turkeys you want and of course, yes, making one gingerbread house it's fun. But this year we will also make bread. I mean, how could we resist? After all, we have created nine new introductory holiday bread recipes for every occasion, from Thanksgiving to New Year's, including all the cozy breakfasts and holidays in between.
Have you ever tried decorating sugar cookies with your kids? I have, and believe me, it wasn't pretty. This year, I'm going to play with their (limited, messy) skills and enlist their help to drizzle the sweet buttercream frosting on these insanely goodies Gingerbread Cinnamon Rolls, which are like a cross between cinnamon buns and gingerbread cookies. The batch is large, so we'll have plenty to share with our neighbors too.
Have you ever brought a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates to a holiday party as a gift for your hosts, only to find it relegated to a pile of similar items in the corner of the kitchen? I have, so this year I plan to show up with this stunning, one braid Blueberry Pistachio Wreath so my hosts can enjoy the breakfast after the party.
Have you spent hours searching for the perfect dinner roll recipe? You can stop now, we've got it: It's these plushies Cacio e Pepe Clover Rolls, which take inspiration from classic Roman pasta and are topped with black pepper and pecorino Romano cheese. Serve them up for Thanksgiving and, if there's any left over, use them to make supersonic turkey sandwiches the next day.
Have you ever put out a plate of food at your holiday party, only to have it go uneaten? That won't happen if you pair it with this appetizer Baked Brie bread flavored with rosemary, which features a warm pool of brie cheese surrounded by bite-sized rosemary-scented rolls, perfect for dipping. Or this Sun bread with garlic and herbs, with its cream cheese filling, all wrapped up in an elegant, sunny and tart package. (It sounds impressive, but it's hard to do!)
Rolls are all well and good, but have you ever craved a different kind of bread on your holiday table? Flex your sourdough skills with this nutty, seeded one Pumpkin-Sunflower Harvest Bread, shaped to resemble a stalk of wheat (which also makes for a particularly elegant bread to tear and split). Or eschew the rolls in favor of a stack of stuffed, ghee-slathered cheese Paneer Kulcha from recipe developer Tara O'Brady, which is rubbed with chili, ginger, garlic, cumin and coriander, a wonderful wake-up call in bread form.
Have you ever wished there was a recipe that combined the crunchy, potato goodness of a latke with the fluffiness of focaccia? Maybe not until now! But now that you have learned Latke Focaccia exists, it's clear that potato-wrapped focaccia (made, brilliantly, with store-bought frozen hashbrowns) deserves a place on your table.
Have you ever dreamed you could make a flaky, buttery pastry at home without, you know, all the rolling work? If so, give them these Faux Laminated Maple Muffin Buns a rotation. A genius trick from recipe author Erin Jeanne McDowell gives you “the look for less,” a rich, sharable bun flavored with maple sugar and baked on high in a muffin pan. Erin makes them every year for her Christmas morning brunch; we bet they will be the star of your celebrations too.
So dive into ours nine beautiful and pleasant holiday breads for any (and every) occasion. Move over, cookies, we've got some baking to do.
